Austroads Technical Specification ATS 5650 sets out the requirements for the supply and installation of bonded metal-elastomer expansion joints, including reinforced elastomeric units, sealants and anchorage systems.

This type of expansion joint consists of a metal reinforced elastomeric pad that spans the joint gap and is rigidly attached on each side of the gap. The joint movements are accommodated by deformation of the elastomer. The metal reinforcement embedded in the elastomer supports traffic crossing the gap. Refer to Annexure B for typical details.

The technical specification can also be downloaded as a Word document.
