In this webinar, Sjaan Koppel, winner of the Austroads-sponsored Women in Road Safety Award 2024, will present findings from an Australian study on the importance of correct seatbelt use during pregnancy for maternal and fetal safety in car crashes.

Sjaan will discuss practical strategies to improve public health messaging, healthcare guidance, and vehicle design, providing valuable insights for road safety stakeholders and healthcare providers.

There will be question and answer opportunities during the session.

Associate Professor Sjaan Koppel, PhD, is the Associate Director for Behavioural Science at the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC). With a background in Psychophysiology, she is dedicated to improving the safe mobility of vulnerable road users, including older adults, women, individuals with medical conditions or impairments, and children. A recognised leader in road safety, Sjaan serves on the Executive Committee of the Australasian College of Road Safety and is President-Elect of the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM). She is also an Associate Editor for Traffic Injury Prevention and a member of the Scientific Program Committee for the TÜV SÜD Conference on the Protection of Children in Cars, where her work informs policies and practices to protect at-risk populations.
