Austroads is proud to celebrate the winners and finalists of the 2024 Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA) Excellence Awards, which recognise outstanding contributions to the traffic management sector.
As part of its ongoing commitment to road safety and professional training, Austroads sponsored two key award categories: Traffic Management Trainer of the Year and Traffic Management Registered Training Organisation (RTO) of the Year.
The Traffic Management Trainer of the Year Award recognises individuals who demonstrate excellence in training and mentoring, significantly advancing the development of traffic management practitioners across Australia.
The 2024 award was granted to Justin Fyson from CTA (VIC), who was recognised for his exceptional dedication to training and developing professionals in the field. His commitment to enhancing safety and promoting best practices, alongside his leadership and passion, has made a significant impact on creating a safer, more efficient workforce.
“I’m truly honoured to receive this recognition. Training the next generation of traffic management professionals is a responsibility I take very seriously, and to be recognised for the work we do at CTA means a lot to me. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made, and I’m excited to continue contributing to improving safety in the industry,” said Justin Fyson.
The Traffic Management RTO of the Year Award, which recognises training organisations that consistently deliver high-quality training programs, was awarded to CivilEdge. With a strong presence across multiple states, CivilEdge has demonstrated its commitment to industry standards, innovation, and producing positive outcomes for both students and employers.
“Receiving this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team at CivilEdge,” said Joanne Croft, General Manager CivilEdge. “We are committed to ensuring that every trainee walks away with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance road safety. This recognition motivates us to continue leading the charge in delivering high-quality traffic management training.”

Austroads continues to lead projects aimed at improving road safety across Australia and New Zealand. The National Harmonisation of Temporary Traffic Management Practice project, which underpinned the excellence awards, is a key initiative designed to standardise training, certification, and operational procedures to ensure a safer environment for both workers and road users.
“The work done by the finalists and winners highlights the positive impact of the harmonisation project,” said Patsy Thomas, Austroads’ National Temporary Traffic Management Operations Manager. “We are excited to see how this work will continue to shape the future of the industry.”
