Project timeframe

• Projects using any current Austroads material or tools.
• Ongoing projects or projects with a future completion date (beyond award submission) are eligible so long as they satisfy the evidence requirements.
• Must demonstrate operational implementation.

What qualifies

• Demonstrable application of Austroads guidance to improve:
  • Road safety;
  • Active travel, network and transport planning;
  • Sustainability and climate resilience;
  • Infrastructure performance and innovation; or
  • Community outcomes.

Evidence required

• Narrative description up to 1000 words. The description should explain:
  • The need or problem the project aimed to address.
  • Which Austroads’ material, guidance or tools were used during the project, and how they were used.
  • Outline measurable outcomes and/or long-lasting and positive impact for the council and community through:
    • metrics (before/after where available)
    • qualitative outcomes (community, safety, efficiency).
• Minimum of three (3) high-quality supporting photographs*
• (Optional) additional supporting documents such as charts, graphs, tables, images, videos, and links.

Entries

• Councils may submit multiple, distinct projects.
• Submissions remain private during intake and judging.

Notes

• By entering the competition, the entrant consents to Austroads disclosing their submission, and any part of that entry or supporting materials supplied with entries may be used for future promotional purposes of the Austroads Guidance to Impact Award.
• Entrants agree to provide Austroads additional photos (as separate jpeg/png files), and/or video footage of the project submitted for the Austroads Guidance to Impact Award. These photos and videos, and information in the Award submission may be used for promotional purposes.

• Information on ‘how to enter’ and Award information form part of these Conditions of Entry. Entry into this Award is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions, the decisions of Austroads and that you satisfy all eligibility requirements.
• Austroads (ABN 16 245 787 323) reserves the right to cancel, amend, terminate, modify, or withdraw an Award (and related Terms and Conditions) at any time.

• All entries must be received in full by Sunday 28 February 2027, 11.59 pm AEST.
• The Awards are open to Australian local councils, or regional or joint council alliances. The project/initiative must meet the eligibility criteria.
• The Judging Panel, and employees and the immediate families of Austroads are not eligible to enter or win.
• To enter, applicants must submit their entry via the online portal. A template is available to help entrants prepare their submissions. Submissions are to be no more than 1000 words, excluding charts, graphs, tables, photographs, videos, and links.
• More than one project or initiative may be submitted by a council, or regional or joint council alliances. Applicants must submit a separate entry for each project.
• The winner of the Award will receive one trophy and one certificate, and an opportunity to deliver a presentation on their award-winning project in an online Austroads webinar. The organisations listed in the award entry submission may be listed on the certificate.
• Finalists for each Award category will each receive one certificate. The organisations listed in the award entry submission may be listed on the certificate.
• Entrants must not: tamper with the entry process; engage in any conduct that may jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the Awards; act in a disruptive, annoying, threatening, abusive or harassing manner; do anything that may diminish the good name or reputation of Austroads or organisations associated with these Awards; breach any law; or behave in a way that is otherwise inappropriate.
• Austroads reserves the right to, at any time, verify an entry or entrant and disqualify an entrant Austroads has reason to believe has submitted an entry not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
• Austroads shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury that is sustained in connection with the Award, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
• Austroads is not responsible for: (i) lost, late, misdirected, damaged, illegible or incomplete entries; or (ii) error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of or failure to receive entry information by Austroads on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or any combination thereof; or (iii) any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in the Awards.
• Austroads reserves the right to cancel the Awards if it becomes technically corrupted (including if a computer virus, bot or system malfunction unilaterally impairs its ability to conduct the Awards), and to select winner from among all eligible entries received prior to withdrawal.
• The winners will be chosen by a panel of experts (the ‘Judging Panel’). Each entry will be judged against the Award category criteria. All judging decisions are as determined by Austroads, in their absolute discretion. Austroads’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
• The Judging Panel and its representatives reserve the right to verify nominations, for example by requesting further information or contacting referees.
• Judging Panel members can declare conflict of interest and step out of the judging process.
• Austroads and any other person or party associated with these Awards shall not be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss), damage, personal injury or death which is suffered or sustained (including but not limited to that arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with these Awards, except any liability that cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
• Without limiting the previous paragraph, Austroads and the organisations associated with these Awards are not liable for any loss of, damage to or delay in delivery of the Award.
• By entering the competition, the entrant consents to Austroads disclosing their submission, and any part of that entry or supporting materials supplied with entries may be used for future promotional purposes by Austroads.
• Austroads will publicly announce the winners and finalists at the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) National General Assembly 2027. Austroads expects to notify winners and finalists in May 2027, with the information under embargo until the formal announcement is made at the National General Assembly 2027.
• Winners agree to attend the ALGA National General Assembly 2027 and purchase a registration ticket for the Conference Gala Dinner if they do not already have a Gala Dinner ticket included in their conference registration.
• Winners agree to nominate up to two project representatives to attend the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) National Local Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Congress 2027 and present on their winning project. Attendance, flights and accommodation, of nominated representative(s) will be sponsored by Austroads.
• Finalists will have the opportunity to collect their certificate at the National General Assembly 2027, or if they are unable to attend, certificates will be mailed to them after the event concludes.
• If a project/initiative is submitted more than once from different individuals in the project team, it will be treated as one submission. The individuals will be notified if another individual has submitted the project/initiative for the Award.
• Photographs and video taken of the Award Winners and Finalists at the ALGA National General Assembly event may be used for promotional purposes.
