Austroads is inviting road managers, transport data professionals, and technology providers across Australia and New Zealand to participate in a survey designed to review the Austroads-23 Vehicle Classification Scheme (scheme).
The scheme, introduced in 2023, offers an extended framework for classifying vehicles and active transport users, aiming to improve data collection and network planning. This review seeks to ensure the scheme is tailored to the needs of road authorities, transport data collectors, and the technology providers supporting their work.
Key areas of input include:
- Enhancing granularity in active and vehicle transport classifications
- Addressing emerging trends, such as electric micro-mobility
- Exploring the role of AI in data collection
The survey, which takes only 5–15 minutes to complete, offers an opportunity to shape the future of transport planning and policy. The anonymised results will contribute to potential updates of the scheme, ensuring its applicability in a rapidly evolving transport landscape.
Participants can also express interest in future project stages, including trials of emerging data collection technologies.
Survey closes on Monday 23 December 2024. Take the survey at austroads.info/vcs23
