In 1995 Austroads Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development indicated that progress needed to be regularly reviewed in so far as ESD was a journey rather than a destination. Subtitled Progress and Directions, this document represents a review of progress and is particularly relevant given Australia's current international environmental obligations and contemporary issues and needs. This report focuses on four key components: strategic context and recent developments in the international and national arena; Austroads ESD journey over the last five years and assessment of progress; current priorities; and strategic directions
