Austroads Technical Specification ATS 4560 sets out the requirements for the installation of conduits and pits for the protection of electrical and communications cables.

ATS 4560 does not cover any of the following:

  • a) the design of the conduit system;
  • b) the supply and installation of cabling in the conduit and any associated equipment; and
  • c) the supply and installation of equipment housings and above ground cabinets.

Requirements in addition to those specified in this Specification may apply if:

  • a) the conduits are not installed underground (such as in a concrete safety barrier); or
  • b) the pits are not installed at or near the ground surface.

If a conduit is installed by Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), the requirements in ATS 4540 will also apply.
