Austroads Technical Specification ATS 5110 sets out the requirements for excavation, backfill associated with bridgeworks, including the construction of cofferdams. If specified, it also applies to other major structures such as culverts with a span exceeding 4.2 m and retaining walls.
It includes requirements for the placement and compaction of general fill and / or select fill adjacent to bridges, which are in addition to the requirements included in the specification for general earthworks.
Refer to ATS 5120 for the requirements for the backfilling of reinforced soil walls.
