Austroads Technical Specification ATS 5260 sets out the requirements for the construction of continuous flight auger (“CFA”) piles with a diameter not less than 450 mm and not greater than 1200 mm. CFA piles are constructed by:

  • boring a hole using a hollow flight auger;
  • filling the hole with concrete injected under pressure as the auger is progressively withdrawn; and
  • inserting the reinforcing cage into plastic concrete.

This Specification does not cover the design of CFA piles.

Unless specified otherwise in the Contract documents, the piles must be installed and tested in accordance with AS 2159, as amended by this Specification.

This technical specification can also be downloaded as a Word document.
