Webinar: Introducing NEC Contracts in Australia

Date: Wednesday, 2 June 2021
Location: Online, 1:00 – 2:30pm AEST
Organiser: Australasian Procurement and Construction Council

This online session, run by Australasian Procurement and Construction Council, will provide an overview of the NEC4 Suite of Contracts which builds upon the success of the NEC3 Contracts.

The NEC Contracts have been updated and streamlined following feedback from the industry, considering Government priorities and emerging best practice. The result is a contract suite with improved flexibility, clarity and which is easier to use. NEC4 enables users to deliver projects on time, on budget and to the highest standards.

NEC in Australia — the Y Clauses
The new Y(AUS) clause will help the increasing number of users in Australia bring NEC4 contracts into line with local contract legislation. It will make NEC4 contracts comply with the various state and territory security-of-payment laws. The clause will have separate provisions depending on where the work, service or supply is carried out, so that in any one contract only some parts of the clause will apply.

NEC at Sydney Water — the Case Study
Sydney Water, Australia’s largest water and wastewater services provider, has adopted NEC4 contracts for its new collaborative enterprise model for delivering up to AU$4 billion of construction works and services between 2020 and 2030. It is the country’s first major infrastructure provider to use NEC as its standard procurement route.
