Austroads has released an updated edition of the Guide to Temporary Traffic Management Part 8: Temporary Traffic Management Categories and the National Training Framework, delivering a nationally harmonised approach to training and accreditation for temporary traffic management professionals across Australia and New Zealand.

This significant update strengthens national consistency by refining Temporary Traffic Management categories, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and introducing an enhanced National Training Framework for Temporary Traffic Management. The revised framework ensures workers are appropriately trained and accredited for their roles, improving safety, efficiency, and best-practice standards across the industry.

Geoff Allan, Austroads Chief Executive, highlighted the importance of this update in shaping the future of temporary traffic management.

"This update represents a major step forward in standardising training, ensuring those working in temporary traffic management are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to operate safely and effectively," Dr Allan said. "By harmonising training programs across jurisdictions, we are improving safety outcomes, creating a more mobile and capable workforce, and fostering national consistency in traffic management practices."

The National Training Framework for Temporary Traffic Management has been operational since January 2024 and has been implemented by South Australia, Victoria, Northern Territory, and Tasmania. The framework provides clear pathways for individuals to attain recognised qualifications, with structured skill sets across Traffic Controller, Traffic Management Implementer, and Traffic Management Designer roles.

The Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management provides comprehensive guidance for the planning, design, and implementation of safe and efficient temporary traffic management practices in Australia and New Zealand.
