Austroads with the National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) and PIARC (the World Road Association), will co-host an international Road Transport Decarbonisation workshop on 10 October 2024 in Melbourne.
On-road freight and passenger transport represent over 75% of global inland transport and must decarbonise to achieve the goals of The Paris Agreement. Solutions for reducing the road transport carbon footprint have different energy, cost and socioeconomic challenges. Understanding these differences is crucial to understanding their capacity to meet local and national needs.
This one-day workshop will share knowledge about modern technologies and policy considerations that encourage the decarbonisation of road transport infrastructure. Sessions will consider:
- a range of national strategies and policies from around the world to decarbonise road passenger and freight transport and their objectives and deployment plans
- electric road systems to decarbonise the road transport sector
- road user solutions to decarbonise the road transport sector, including technology solutions
- solutions for alternative energy production, including solar panels and wind turbines along the road.
Co-hosted by NTRO and Austroads and facilitated by PIARC Technical Committee 3.5, this international workshop will bring together experts from around the world along with key figures in the Australasian region to disseminate current state-of-the-art practices and discuss the ongoing opportunities and challenges in Road Infrastructure for Road Transport Decarbonisation.
