Supporting the path to zero: New Knowledge Hub and webinar

Thursday, 2 July 2026

Austroads has launched a new Knowledge Hub to support road authorities and road safety practitioners across Australia and New Zealand to plan for and deliver zero road deaths and serious injuries.

Bringing together a comprehensive suite of practical resources, the hub is designed to help translate long-term safety ambitions and commitments into clear, actionable pathways. It provides structured guidance for developing road safety strategies, strengthening delivery of road safety actions, and supporting the organisational and stakeholder change needed to embed safety throughout the road transport system and achieve sustained reductions in death and serious injury.

“Achieving zero road deaths and serious injuries requires more than setting a target. It requires sustained effort across planning, delivery and engagement. The Knowledge Hub is designed to support that journey by helping organisations move from ambition to implementation,” said Michael Nieuwesteeg, Austroads Road Safety and Design Program Manager.

“We’ve heard consistently that practitioners want practical guidance they can apply in their own context. This hub brings together the tools, frameworks and supporting materials in one place to make that easier.”

The Knowledge Hub includes the Planning for Zero Framework (PfZF), Zero Pathway development guidance, case studies, and a range of supporting materials such as briefings, fact sheets, infographics, engagement guidance, messaging toolkits, training resources and detailed reports.

It is intended primarily for road authorities, policy makers, planners, designers and practitioners, while also supporting government partners, industry and others working across the road safety system.

The resources have been developed under the Charting a Path to Eliminating Road Death and Serious Injury project, which has now been completed. The project provides a foundation for jurisdictions to develop long-term pathways to zero road trauma by 2050 based on Safe System principles.

To support the release of the Knowledge Hub and share key project outcomes, Austroads will host a webinar outlining the full program of work. The session will introduce the Planning for Zero Framework and demonstrate how it can be applied through tailored Zero Pathways, alongside practical insights into strategy development, implementation and stakeholder engagement.
