Bridges

The Sydney Gateway Project features two network arch bridges crossing the Alexandra Canal, to improve connectivity from Sydney Airport to the Sydney motorway network.

Freyssinet were engaged by John Holland - Seymour Whyte JV to undertake the development, design, supply, and execution of the launching operations, as well as stay cable hanger supply, installation and stressing of the two arch bridges.

The project imposed several unique challenges to convention to confirmal launching methods. Freyssinet developed a set of bespoke launching equipment to make the launching of the bridges feasible. This included an approximately 80 m long width-adaptable launch nose, as well as adjustable rocker bearings and side guides to successfully complete launching operations in 2023.
