This report provides a summary of current knowledge on best practice in the use of mobile point-to-point (MP2P) speed camera enforcement, based on insights derived from peer-reviewed and grey literature, as well as international consultation with jurisdictions and technology providers.
The best practice policy review identified and gathered evidence around the following key themes: role of MP2P in the speed management landscape; relevant research from MP2P and other types of similar enforcement; types of technology/equipment available, operational factors, deployment options and considerations; regulations, legislation and sanctions; and communications and public education.
A range of evidence on attributes of optimal deployment principles for MP2P camera was identified in the literature, either directly resulting from experience with MP2P strategic thinking, deployment and trials, or indirectly resulting from experience with deployment of related camera types.
The consultation produced a range of useful information about interest in, and support for MP2P enforcement, likely operational practices if the technology was adopted, including integration and synergies with existing automated speed enforcement technologies and perceived likely benefits and disbenefits with the technology.
