Austroads Technical Specification ATS 4210 sets out the requirements for the supply and installation of steel beam safety barrier systems, including end terminals. It covers public domain systems and proprietary systems.
ATS 4210 may be used for new installations and for the repair or replacement of an existing steel beam safety barrier system.
The following are excluded from this Specification:
- design of safety barrier systems;
- wire rope safety barrier systems (refer to ATS 4220);
- concrete safety barriers (refer to ATS 4230);
- bridge barriers (refer to ATS 5840);
- temporary safety barriers used during the construction of roadworks or bridgeworks; and
- balustrades, pedestrian fences or other fences adjacent to roads.
