Safety Task Force
The Safety Task Force has representatives from state and territory road agencies, the National Transport Commission, the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, and the Australian Local Government Association.
The Task Force aims to eliminate death and serious injury in the road transport system using a Safe System approach by:
- understanding risks and challenges facing road managers
- collaborating across the road and transport industry
- promoting and supporting best practice implementation.
The Task Force coordinates research that:
- supports the incorporation of Safe System principles and practices into Austroads Guides and other documents
- supports the Global Decade of Action for Road Safety, the Australian National Road Safety Strategy and NZ’s ‘Safer Journeys’
- investigates emerging road safety issues
- informs the ongoing development of the Guide to Road Safety.
