Austroads is bringing the global digital identity and verifiable credential community to Australia.

From 3 to 5 October 2024, Austroads will host international leaders, experts, and globally compliant providers in Sydney, Australia for IVC24. This event will include the unveiling of Australia's first Digital Trust Service (DTS), demonstrating how digital credentials from any country and industry can seamlessly interoperate in Australia.

The International Identity and Verifiable Credentials (IVC24) event is an Austroads sponsored program on digital identity that will feature three event streams:

  1. IVC Summit Showcase and Policy Discussions - Invitation only (IVC24 Summit)

    October 3 - 4, 2024

    Global government executives, digital strategists, identity product owners, policy advisors, regulators, and service providers will gather to witness an array of showcases demonstrating how verifiable credentials can address real-world problems. These showcases will demonstrate the wide range of applications for this technology and its potential to drive significant economic outcomes. The event will also feature policy discussions led by experts from Europe, North America, and Australasia on mutual recognition, trust, security, and privacy. Participation is by invitation only.

  2. International Standards Identity and Credential Working Groups and Plenary Council

    September 30 - October 18, 2024

    Global experts instrumental in developing international identity and credential standards, will convene in Sydney to hold discussions. Participation is limited to relevant International Standards working groups.

  3. 10th International Interoperability Test Event (IVC24 Interop)

    October 3 - 5, 2024

    Since 2018, international organisations have collaborated to test the interoperability of their digital identity and credential wallets and verifiers using international standards. The top 50 global identity organisations regularly participate in these tests. This year, Austroads' pre-production Digital Trust Service will be central to the event, where digital wallets, verifiers, and trust service providers will test their products in various use cases alongside regulators, governments, and other stakeholders. Participation is open to organisations with a current ISO compliant product or the intention to deliver an ISO compliant product to market next year.     Join Austroads and MATTR for a webinar series in the leadup to IVC24 Interop. The first session Demystifying Digital Licences and Austroads Digital Trust Service on Friday 9 August at 12:00 AEST will give an overview of mDLs and the Austroads DTS, and the other two sessions, IVC24 interop introductory webinar on 14 August 2024 9:00 AEST / 13 August 2024 23:00 UTC or 14 August 2024 18:00 AEST / 8:00 UTC will provide information for parties interested in joining the 10th International Interoperability Test Event.

Austroads is collaborating with global leaders to ensure that the next generation of digital licences issued in Australia function nationwide and is working to lay the groundwork for international mutual recognition. This technology aligns with European and North American initiatives in developing a privacy-preserving verifiable credential trust service that operates across multiple channels, offline and functions seamlessly across industry and government sectors.
