To enable collaboration and the adoption of best-practice approaches across jurisdictions, Austroads is undertaking a multi-stage project to standardise and automate ways of recording and sharing road asset information.

The benefits of standardised collection of road asset data and the availability of a platform to store or exchange data include:

  • direct savings to road agencies through reduced information management costs, including the opportunity to sustain an open and competitive market of data collectors
  • reducing the time needed to train new staff and contractors
  • facilitating better decision making on road investment and expenditure through consistent asset data
  • facilitating the implementation of national reforms, including Heavy Vehicle Road Reform and automated vehicle reform
  • providing consistent asset data to accommodate innovative technology in the road sector (e.g., LIDAR technology, building information modelling (BIM), and digital twinning).

To date, the project has delivered the Data Standard for Road Management and Investment in Australia and New Zealand which caters for different levels of road asset complexity and asset management planning. The data standard is intended to be used by all road asset owners, managers, road network funding agencies and service providers in the planning, delivery, operation, maintenance, disposal and reporting of asset management functions across the road asset portfolio.

Austroads is now building a Road Asset Data Standard platform where road managers can report activities, collaborate and share insights.  A reporting portal has been developed to supplement the knowledge sharing platform.  Use of the platform and the portal will standardise data collection and reporting, reduce the need for manual data manipulation and cleaning, and streamline processes. The systems provide road managers with access to visual dashboards and more advanced business intelligence which have the potential to improve maintenance practices and reduce expenditure.

This webinar will launch the initial functionality of the platform and provide an overview of how road managers can utilise the platform features to gain value and insights. Webinar participants will also hear about opportunities to participate in the Road Asset Data Standard project.

The webinar will be presented by Angus Draheim, Chris Koniditsiotis, Tom Magarey, David Deacon and Geoffrey Paton.

There will be opportunities for questions and answers at the end of the session.

No charge but registration is essential.
