The National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS) is responsible for maintaining a database that registers every vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) across Australia.
A key task of NEVDIS is to decode and upload new VINs as vehicles are manufactured or imported into Australia, ensuring the vehicle is available for registration.
Vehicles Imported Under Concessional RAV Entry Approval
When a vehicle is imported, the NEVDIS Administration Unit (NAU) receives the VIN recorded on the Concessional RAV Entry Approval so it can be validated, decoded and uploaded for registration purposes. Vehicles can only be imported into Australia once the Concessional RAV Entry Approval has been granted.
It should be noted that NEVDIS only records VINs for vehicles built on or after 1 January 1989 under Motor Vehicle Standards Act.
