5. Musculoskeletal conditions

This section deals with fitness to drive in relation to a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and disabilities that may result in chronic pain, muscle weakness, joint stiffness, sensory loss or loss of limbs. Specific neuromuscular conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, are addressed under section 6. Neurological conditions. Musculoskeletal conditions are also likely to coexist with other impairments, such as visual and cognitive impairment, particularly in older people. From 22 June 2022 there have been changes to the fitness to drive criteria for musculoskeletal conditions.
